A Round-Up

Despite my best efforts I have been remiss in keeping this site updated. I have added to my photograph gallery quite a bit and have even posted some on to my shop and to my BlueSky. However, this blog is very out of date. I know it’s not new year but I am resolved to do better and try and post much more regularly. However before I do, I thought a little round-up of what has been happening would be on order.

Sea Cadets. I am now the Officer in Charge of Worcester Unit and although it has been extremely busy, I am finding it very rewarding. Whilst on the subject, I am further along with the officer programme and and now just waiting on my commission which is real personal landmark.
I have changed jobs. I left the university in December and am no longer an outdoor instructor. It was a difficult decision as I miss the work and the people but my new role is proving very rewarding. I am now helping to develop a training centre that delivers qualifications related to the UK’s Confined Space Regulations (1997). I am hoping to add to our portfolio but until then I am busy studying, qualifying and deliver a whole new range of skills.
No new cameras yet. However I am still taking lots of photographs in both digital and film and so new videos are on the way.

Bluesky

It looks like Twitter/X is finally dying. Elon Musk has made it unusable. So I have closed my account and moved over to Bluesky. The very guy that complained about bots and too much censorship has reduced it to noting but those very things. You cannot be heard unless you pay, and you cannot hear about your interests because of the sheer volume of porn, spam and hatred.

A while back I had high hopes for Mastodon, but it does not seem to have attracted the attention of many. Of course there is also Threads but I’m not entirely sure that model won’t differ too much from Elon’s before long. Bluesky however is a joy. It is entirely free and you don’t have to be famous to get verified. The biggest thing going for it though, in my opinion, is it is just like what Twitter used to be like in the beginning. If you haven’t already, go check it out.

Jump Start

I need a jump start. Not my car, but my “brand”. My social media presence, this website and most of all, my YouTube Channel. I haven’t posted anything in so long that I may have to re-learn how. It’s not that I haven’t wanted to. Quite the opposite actually. It’s jus that when my mental health is poor, activities that were previously enjoyed, seem to be the first to be neglected. Finding the time and making the effort are soon replaced with apathy and procrastination.

As I am currently in a relatively good place, mentally speaking; I am here to make a promise that I am back. I’m currently working on two new posts and a new video. The procrastination ends here. Now if you’ll excuse me, I am going to make a cup of tea.

Channel Re-launch

Yes I know I have promised before but then were setbacks. This means it has been nearly a year since my last video. Amazingly you have continued to support me, and I’m very grateful. I hope to reward you with some great content that you will love. Please watch this space and let’s get back to some regular vintage cameras, film photography outdoor education and soon amateur radio.

Double Celebration

Oh my goodness! I hit 1000 subscribers on my YouTube channel, at the same as hitting a total of 150,000 views. I am truly blown away by this. Especially as, due to various things happening in real life, I haven’t been posting recently. I really can’t thank you all enough, it really is appreciated.

The good news is that I now have several videos in various stages of production with the first one due to be released this weekend. So again, thank for sticking with me and I look forward to see you in the comments real soon.

Missing In Action

A bit dramatic, but I have been missing in action for some time. I apologise but work, ill health and other personal reasons have prevented me from posting. Not just on here, but on my YouTube Channel as well. I am stunned to see that despite this, my subscriber/follower count on several platforms has continued to rise. Thank you to all of you. It means a great deal. I promise that I am not done, I have much more to share with you and I hope to begin that again very soon.

Get it? Because I reached 747 subscribers! OK so that’s a bad joke but it leads to me to say a huge “thank you” to you for all the support you have shown me and the channel. This post is also an apology for not having poste a new video in a while. I’m still here, I promise. I was away on holiday and work has been extremely busy since I got back. Please bear with me and I will get a new video out ASAP!

Another thing to mention is that I upgraded my logo. The old one was based on me dying my hair which I no longer do and so I thought I’d feature the beard instead. I hope you like it.

A Stripped Back Look

What do you think of the stripped back look? I decided that during the course of developing my website I had some how got a bit carried away with making it pretty. Nothing wrong with that. But, it has become bloated and a little bug-ridden. This meant it loaded slowly and not always successfully. All factors that would ruin my efforts with SEO. So I took all my clothes off and started again. OK not literally, but yes I have removed a lot of the unnecessary and whilst it might look more plan. In my eyes at least, it is much improved.

Why don’t you patronise my Patreon? Well I understand if you don’t want to. The thing is, this being a creator lark is hard work and can prove expensive. However I enjoy it and some of you guys seem to as well. For a long time I resisted the idea of trying to make money from my videos. But I have finally decided to create a Patreon, not to make money as such, but to re-coup a small part of my outlay. I am not expecting many of you to pay, and that’s OK. But if the odd one or two could see their way to buy me a coffee? That would be grand. Thank you either way.
